“You Need a Better Bra” — And Other Unsolicited Opinions About My Body
“Girl, you need to get yourself a better bra.”
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard this line. It comes from strangers on Instagram, from women in Facebook groups, from random men who somehow think my breasts are a public concern. It happens in YouTube comments and whispered in real life.
For nearly forty years, my breasts have existed in the world, and somehow, they’ve always been up for discussion. They’ve been praised, scrutinized, sexualized, and judged — sometimes all in the same conversation.
And the most baffling part? It never stops.
At 12, my developing chest was seen as “too much.” At 16, it was assumed I wanted male attention. In my twenties, it was a weapon in the dating game — whether I wanted to play or not. And now, in my forties, my breasts are simply…wrong. Too saggy. Too big. Too visible. Too exposed. Too free.
At every stage of my life, my breasts have been subject to public opinion, as if their existence alone invites…
